Earlier this month, Microsoft announced it was updating the Surface Laptop launched last year. The new laptop, called the Surface Laptop 2, is claimed to be 85 percent faster than the previous model and adds a matte black color option. However, if you’re in China, Microsoft is set to offer you an exclusive pink variant.
The announcement of a Surface Laptop 2 in Blush was made by Panos Panay, chief product officer at Microsoft and creator of the Surface. He explained that the finish was created by a designer on the Surface team called Quan, and that you’ll only be able to purchase the Blush variant in China.
Excited to be in Beijing today to share our newest products in China. Especially Surface Laptop 2 in Blush. A finish developed exclusively for China by Quan, an incredibly talented designer on our team, who also happens to be featured in this photo #SurfaceLaptop2 #Blush pic.twitter.com/siCXNwKYpU

Colors available outside of China include Black, Platinum, Burgundy, and Cobalt Blue, so there’s no shortage of choice. However, not offering a Blush option when you’re already manufacturing it seems like an oversight to me. Is a China exclusive color really worth that much to Microsoft, or is this simply a timed exclusive?
The Surface Laptop 2 will start shipping tomorrow. PCMag’s first look at the new laptop revealed that the new black color looks great and it is sure to be an enjoyable device to use. However, there’s a few glaring holes in the spec, with the most notable being a complete lack of USB-C ports.
